I am a Researcher with the Division of Environment and Natural Resources at the Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research (NIBIO). My work supports organisation-level positioning for EU and international research and innovation, with a focus on identifying, scoping, and developing project opportunities in circular economy, nutrient recovery, sustainable water systems, and bioeconomy transitions.
I work at the interface of science, policy, and international project development. In collaboration with research leaders, technical experts, public authorities, industry partners, and stakeholder networks, I help translate strategic policy priorities into fundable project concepts, robust consortium structures, and coherent implementation frameworks. This includes aligning research ideas with Horizon Europe, EU Missions, the EU Green Deal, circular economy strategies, and environmental policy frameworks.
This portfolio builds directly on my previous role at RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, where I contributed to the development and coordination of three major EU-funded projects, securing more than €21 million in funding:
- CiNURGi, EU Interreg Baltic Sea Region core project on circular nutrient recovery.
- iCOSHELLs, Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Action (RIA) under EU Mission Soil.
- FERTITEC, Horizon Europe Coordination and Support Action (CSA) for sustainable fertiliser technologies.
Across these projects, my contribution covered the full project-development cycle: call analysis and work programme interpretation, proposal conceptualisation, consortium building, qualitative and Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) methodology design, co-creation and stakeholder engagement frameworks, grant writing, project planning, deliverables structuring, Grant Agreement Preparation (GAP), Consortium Agreement coordination, data management planning, ethics documentation, intellectual property considerations, and financial budgeting support.
At NIBIO, I continue to develop this EU and international project portfolio with particular attention to circular bioeconomy systems, wastewater and nutrient recycling, sustainable fertiliser value chains, soil health, agri-environmental governance, policy-oriented research, and climate-adaptive water and resource management. My aim is to strengthen cross-border research collaborations that connect Nordic, European, and international partners, and to contribute to project portfolios that turn environmental regulation, scientific expertise, and applied innovation into practical pathways for sustainable resource use.
Academic & Professional Background
I hold a PhD in General Linguistics from the University of Gothenburg, where I also served as research faculty. My academic background includes a Master of Science in Information Studies from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and a Master of Arts in English Language from the National University of Singapore.
My research background combines applied linguistics, international business, discourse analysis, cross-cultural communication, user-centred design, market access studies, and sustainability-oriented research. This interdisciplinary profile supports my work in EU and international projects, where scientific, policy, institutional, and stakeholder perspectives need to be integrated into coherent project designs.
With more than 17 years of experience across academia, applied research, and executive education, I have held roles including:
- Researcher, Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research (NIBIO)
- Senior Scientist / Project Manager EU & International, RISE Research Institutes of Sweden
- Scientist, Nofima, Norway
- Principal Investigator & Scientist, ABB Corporate Research, Sweden
- Key Account Manager, School of Executive Education, University of Gothenburg
- Research Faculty, Centre for International Business Studies (CIBS), University of Gothenburg
As Key Account Manager at the School of Executive Education, I designed, coordinated, and delivered executive leadership programmes for Swedish multinational corporations, including Volvo AB and SKF, with programme delivery across Europe and Asia. In 2011, I attended the International Faculty Program (IFP) at IESE Business School in Barcelona, further developing my expertise in executive education, leadership, and international business strategy.
Research, Publications & Methodological Expertise
My scholarly work spans applied linguistics, international business, sustainability communication, food systems, aquaculture, circular economy, nutrient recycling, water governance, and AI-policy-governance relationships. I have published across peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings, edited volumes, book chapters, and professional outlets, with recent work addressing EU water directives, circular nutrient economies, recycled nutrient fertilisers, wastewater-related environmental challenges, and international project collaboration.
Methodologically, I work with qualitative research design, corpus and discourse analysis, stakeholder mapping, co-creation and co-management processes, cross-cultural communication analysis, user-centred design, and policy-oriented framing. These methods are particularly useful in EU project contexts, where scientific excellence, implementation pathways, stakeholder engagement, impact logic, and policy relevance must be developed as an integrated whole.
EU & Global Networks
I engage with European and international policy, research, and innovation networks relevant to nutrient stewardship, sustainable soil management, circular economy, water governance, bioeconomy transitions, and regional cooperation. These networks support my work in EU project scouting, consortium positioning, policy alignment, and the development of cross-border research portfolios.
My current working arenas include:
- EU Interreg Baltic Sea Region Coordinators Network
- EU Mission Soil Coordinators Network
- European Sustainable Phosphorus Platform (ESPP)
- EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR)
- Horizon Europe Cluster 6 networks on food, bioeconomy, natural resources, agriculture, and environment
- European partnerships and platforms related to circular bioeconomy, water security, agroecology, soil health, and sustainable resource management
- Nordic and European research networks in agriculture, water, bioeconomy, and circular resource systems
Through these networks, I collaborate with research institutions, public authorities, industry partners, policymakers, and civil society actors to identify emerging funding opportunities, develop strategic partnerships, and support research and innovation portfolios that advance circular economy, climate resilience, water management, nutrient recovery, and sustainable bioeconomy transitions.
Beyond Work
Beyond research and policy, I have a deep appreciation for cultural heritage, academic excellence, and international engagement. In 1999, I represented Singapore at the Miss Universe pageant, an experience that broadened my perspective on diplomacy, public communication, and cross-cultural representation. As a member of Singapore’s Eurasian minority, I was consistently ranked among the top 5% of my community for academic performance from ages 13 to 17. These experiences reinforced my commitment to integrity, resilience, and collaboration, values that continue to shape my professional journey.
